An amalgamation of many genres, including Jazz, Canadiana, Hip Hop, and
Pop; Edmonton, AB based duo Jesse Dee and Jacquie B are creating a sound
that is distinctly vintage yet unmistakably contemporary. With tints of
Tom Waits, Luke Doucet, and Ani Difranco, their music is laden with
sincere story-telling, tender laments, clever hooks, and colorful harmonies.

The Jesse Dee & Jacquie B experience is full of unexpected twists and
turns. While Dee’s electric guitar leads the audience through
mesmerizing jazz jams, delicate folk, and dirty blues incantations,
Jacquie B’s vocals are a blindfold over the eyes of regularity. Her
unconventional harmonies seamlessly blend with Dee’s unique style and
delivery.

Since the release of the debut offering “A Cross Pollination of Service
Station Scrawl” in March of 2008, Jesse Dee & Jacquie B have been
catching audiences off guard. Add percussion into the mix and what you
get is an energy-fused live show that is absolutely drenched in passion
and wit. They are together making hard inroads which hasn’t been going
unnoticed…

"Taking the street-smart elegance of Sinatra, and imbuing it with the
scruffy edge of Tom Waits… Blessed with a voice that paints evocative
portraits of the hollow souls that inhabit our world… Dee's musical
flourishes scrub the interior of the heart with their incandescence, "A
Cross Pollination of Service Station Scrawl" is the opening chapter of
an extremely promising career!"

Bill Durst has long been compared to the best guitar player/singer/entertainers anywhere in the world. Bill has written and recorded over 100 songs on ten albums including seven charted Canadian radio hits. After the early success of his band Thundermug in North America and Europe, Bill was acclaimed as one of the top songwriters in Canada, signing with CBS (now Sony) Publishing, and releasing his first two solo albums in 1984 and 1989. In between these two albums, as a side gig, Bill played in “the biggest bar band in Canada” Tres Hombres, a ZZ Top clone band, and that’s how he got his beard started!

In 1994 Bill co-wrote, produced, sang and played guitar on the cd “Who’s Running My World”, released under the Thundermug name, which received forty two continuous weeks of nationally charted radio airplay and spawned three hit singles in Canada.

Bill has opened for Aerosmith, Rush, Bob Seger, The Yardbirds, Sly and The Family Stone, George Thorogood, Bad Company, Jeff Healey, Edgar Winter Group, The Tubes, David Clayton Thomas, Savoy Brown, Little Feat etc. and has toured across North America and Europe.

As for Bill’s live performance, Herman Goodden wrote “Durst delivers…feedback…echo effect… powerful singing, freak harmonic, buzz sawing bottle neck guitar and supercharged intensity are all components of Bill Durst’s showmanship. Durst, the legendary virtuoso guitarist, performed a radical re-interpretation of Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing” which opened with some incredible mewings that he squeezed out of his fret board, suggesting an overhead migration of gigantic seagulls”.

When you see Bill play or listen to his cds, you are in for a treat. Co-writing with friend and former Thundermug band mate Joe DeAngelis has resulted in a wonderful synthesis of fun and exiting blues, roots, rock music and an unforgettable cd – “The Great Willy Mammoth” – featuring the full mature onslaught of a true artistic gem / world class guitar player / singer, songwriter / entertainer named Bill Durst.

Joe Nolan is a rare presence. To witness his live performances is to know that this young man was born to be a singer songwriter. Passion and music ooze from the very core of his being.

For the past few years in the Edmonton area, audiences have been captivated and wowed by this young man’s genuine performances. Joe is instantly ‘likable’ and presents a show that is real and sincere. He writes songs with the deftness of Neil Young, and critics compare his guitar work to the complexity and virtuosity of Bruce Cockburn. A special talent indeed.

Testament to Joe’s prowess as an up and coming musician of note and influence, was the ‘buzz’ he created at this year’s Edmonton Folk Music Festival (2008). Selected from all the performers and workshop performances over the four day festival, the Penguin Eggs Folk/Roots magazine voted Joe as one of the top three singer songwriters of that prestigious festival. Citing Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, and Neil Young as major influences of his work, Joe’s sound is unlike any other. His songs are a unique blend of his own perspectives and insights of many of the world’s current woes.

Critics often call him an ‘old soul’ and say his lyrics ‘mature way beyond his years’. His debut CD, Pocket Dreams, produced by Jann Arden’s bass player, Mike Lent, is an impressive collection of 16 original songs that will stand the test of time. Easy to listen to, this CD provides more and more with each listen. The depth and richness of Joe’s songs continuously unravel and provide nuggets of wisdom that touch and connect with people of all ages. His voice and phrasing spellbind and often leaves one wanting more.

With too many credits and awards to list, Joe has helped open for the likes of Canadian rocker, Kim Mitchell, and Sarah McLachlan’s guitar player, Sean Ashby. He has shared the stage with many, including Juno award winner, Bill Bourne, and is looking forward to opening with world renowned slide guitarist, Ellen McIlwaine, this Fall.

Every so often, a young artist arrives on the music scene and his audience instinctively knows that he is destined to contribute significantly to the rich tapestry of music and musicians that preceded him. Though only 18 years of age, such is the case for Joe Nolan. Watch for him.

~The Dustin Bentall Outfit~
~ BIO ~
www.dustinbentall.com
Dustin Bentall hails from Vancouver, BC and it seems an unlikely place to nurture such a rustic troubadour. It seemed like an unlikely country for Rick Danko, Robbie Robertson, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel or Neil Young to be from... until people took a closer look. Up here you'll find as deep a frontier spirit and hard luck charm as any nation. You'll find a reverence for the tales of everyday life and loss and you'll find a lot of people who have time to woodshed and learn their craft. Spinning songs by Neil Young, The Band, Bob Dylan, John Prine, Tom T. Hall, The Beatles, Wilco and Steve Earle Dustin found the heart of that music and placed it under his own landscapes.
His father, Barney is approaching legendary status in Canadian rock circles and has let the boy grow up to build his own strengths. He just dropped hints but didn't crack any whips.
"There's no question I've learned more from him than anyone else in the business. He never pushed the guitar on me but was always there to answer any questions I had, and left the actual learning up to me. I spent a few years wishing he had cracked the whip a little more but I have come to realize that the style I have developed has been a product of my own chosen influences. The old man proved over and over that he can rock with the best of them. I've always been really proud of that and hoped that it's written in my DNA."
It is part of his DNA. Then there's the learned part. He sounds older than his years because his songs speak with wisdom about his youthful experiments with immortality.
The narcotic cowboy thing you hear in Dustin's music comes from his love for Gram Parsons, The Flying Burrito Brothers and the Byrds with their so-called 'Cosmic American Music.' That is, not to mention the time he has spent in the saddle ropin' and branding steers on the ranch.
A two-month pleasure cruise across Canada throughout the summer of 2004 inspired all kinds of writing. However it ended with a bang. Inside his '69 Chevy Impala Dustin and his best friend took on an F250 and its camper trailer head on in British Columbia's Fraser Canyon. He sat there next to his buddy who wasn’t speaking and got a taste of the fine line between life and death. They both recovered and Dustin went on to record the debut record “Streets With No Lights” in 2005.
The release of that record took Dustin back out on the Trans-Canada Highway a number of times, as well down to Nashville and over-seas to tour Denmark and Ireland. The record caught the ears of veteran music publisher Leeds Levy to with which he inked his first publishing deal.
Dustin recently opened some shows for Kathleen Edwards on the west coast. Concert goers in Vancouver are getting accustomed to seeing him up on stage for a Blue Rodeo encore. To complete the cross-Canada connection he snagged guitar slinging demon Luke Doucet for a couple days in the studio to Cameo on the new record. Dustin has done a lot of writing with Canadian Country Music up and comer Ridley Bent. One song in particular “Nine Inch Nails” holds the honors of 2008’s Country Song Of The Year with the Independent Music Awards of North America.
With a new band including guitar incredible Adam Dobres, drummer Pat Steward and bass player Del Cowsill, son of the late Billy Cowsill all signs are pointing towards 2009 being a very big year for Dustin and The Outfit.

www.karlaanderson.com

After an extended period of anticipation, Karla Anderson's sophomore album is finally here. Titled “Brand New Day”, the album is another step forward for the singer-songwriter who didn't rush things when it came time to follow up her award-winning debut disc “The Embassy Sessions”. Anderson has a career outside the industry and a family to take care of, so it's no wonder she hasn't completely turned her life over to music, instead opting to pick her spots for performing and recording. She took a long look at whether she was willing to commit herself to a life of making music. Now, Anderson has decided this is a chapter in her life that will allow her to travel and step onto more stages throughout North America and Europe.

One listen to Brand New Day and there is no debate about whether she's got the goods. Deciding to make a record that was a little more band-like than The Embassy Sessions, Karla drew on the talents of guitarists Gary Koliger and Tim Leacock, Mike Lent on bass and Lyle Molzan on drums, and recorded 10 originals, as well as Jeffrey Foucault's I Dream an Old Lover and the Felice and Boudleaux Bryant standard, Bye Bye Love, which was a major hit for the Everly Brothers in 1957. Anderson took Bye Bye Love and put the brakes on the tempo, cradled the lyrics, and turned the song into an emotional tour de force.

In Dec. 2005 Karla won the Best New/Emerging Artist at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Her song “What Else Can I Do? has been featured in the hit televison series’ “Joan of Arcadia” and “Party of Five”. She has shared stages with Ruthie Foster, Chip Taylor and Carrie Rodriguez, James Keelaghan and Oscar Lopez, Martyn Joseph, Harry Manx, Kieren Kane and Kevin Welch, David Francey, Gordie Sampson and Darrel Scott.

She was part of the allstar line-up featured at the 2008 International Leonard Cohen Festival that included Darrell Scott, Serena Ryder, Jann Arden and more. Karla Anderson lives just outside of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

~ Karen Bryce~
~ BIO ~
Karen Bryce began teaching herself the guitar at the age of twelve by writing little songs .Then, by age fourteen, the coffeehouse scene was an excellent place to offer practice before a live audience, by presenting a variety of cover tunes learned by ear and the odd original.

She won a song writing contest at the age of nineteen with Tom Northcott in Vancouver and spent several weeks in his studio learning how to record songs.

Next came two invitations for the first two Edmonton folk music festivals. A few years later she entered and came in second place in an A.R.I.A. Song writing contest.

I.T.V a local television station held auditions for a series of local artist concert series and she got that gig too. Along the way she and her husband bought land and built their own log home an hour away from Edmonton, and she took part in a lot of open stages in the city and was invited to play at several fund raisers for the likes of C.J.S.R and C.K.U.A .

Another local artist concert she took part in was held at the Edmonton Public Library which is built like a mini Jubilee Auditorium.

For the past many years, she has taught youngsters to play guitar and prepared college entrants with vocal training.

Karen herself has a strong three octave range and an original guitar style that sets her apart. She has a commanding stage presence and is well received in her presentation of unique and healing songs. She has played also at the University of Alberta Hospital, with other friends for the benefit of the patients. She has opened for Bill Bourne in Grande Prairie in a soft seat concert venue, and also for Valdy, and has opened for Roy Forbes at the Full Moon Folk Club in Edmonton.

A local friend and she put together a mini concert at the local Evansburg Grand Trunk high school and had a full house.

Every year she has a place playing at the local Farmer's Day Festival at Rangeton Park, which is attended by hundreds of happy campers. Next she has a second album in the works, the first is titled Fresh Air, and was released in 2000.

~ The Swiftys~
~ BIO ~
www.theswiftys.net

Since their inception in 2002, the Swiftys have been determined to make heartfelt country music, and to make it their way. They have been dubbed "modern outlaws," both for their love of the maverick country movement of the 1970's, and for their desire to follow inspiration wherever it may lead them. They fervently believe that the integrity of a well-honed and honest band can exist outside of the conventions of musical norms.
While they wear their influences on their sleeves, their heroes themselves -- ranging from the rugged Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard, to rock'n'rollers the Band and CCR, to the sophisticated Lucinda Williams, Buddy Miller, and Steve Earle -- have shown the Swiftys that the development of one's own expressiveness is paramount, and they have intended to follow that lesson from the start.
Though they are fortunate to have many talented musical cohorts join them occasionally onstage or in the studio, the Swiftys are at their core a trio, creating a lean, tough, identifiable sound together that's as likely to get youngsters rocking as it is to get old-timers two-stepping.
Shawn "Swifty" Jonasson, the band's namesake, put the group together after he decided that, having contributed his abilities as a guitar player, keyboardist, saxophonist, arranger, and producer to a host of projects, the time had come for him to find a forum for his own songs. Having played and recorded with the likes of the House of Payne, Jen Kraatz, the George Bushes, and Trevor Rockwell, as well as Old Reliable, Shawn brings hefty experience as well as an Atlas-like work ethic to the Swiftys. He handles the lead vocals and guitar as well as being the chief songwriter and producer in the band. Grant "Stovetop" Stovel is another young fellow whose experience belies his years. Having spent the bulk of his adult life playing drums in blues bands, Grant gives the Swiftys a dynamic, propulsive centre for the music to writhe around. He has traveled internationally as a drummer, playing both with Canadian blues luminaries like Sue Foley, Brent Parkin, Harpdog Brown, and Donald Ray Johnson, as well as with a host of legendary American blues figures, such as Pinetop Perkins, Billy Boy Arnold, Big Jack Johnson, and Lazy Lester.
The newest member is Moses Gregg who provides the bountiful bottom end to the Swiftys sound on upright bass.
Together, the Swiftys strive to create honest, no-nonsense music derived from sincere songwriting and the musical chemistry that they share together. Their efforts have resulted in an old fashioned country music sensibility that weaves in stray fragments of their interest in blues, jazz, rock'n'roll, Western swing and whatever else might be lingering in their collective subconscious. They have produced wo albums to date and with Swifty's relocation to Dauphin, Manitoba where he has built his own recording studio it probably won't be long before album number 3 is on the way. Their career thus far has seen them tour far and wide, sharing bills with some of their favorite artists such as the Sadies, the Corb Lund Band, Lucinda Williams, Marty Stuart and Rodney Crowell. They have appeared at some of the most highly-regarded music festivals in the world as well as many famous and infamous clubs. Most importantly they have made a lot of good friends along the way. They earnestly look forward to whatever is in store for them around the next bend of their chosen path.

“It can’t be argued that these guys are the real deal”
exclaim! Magazine

“From the moment Jonasson croons his first few lines, his voice sounds like a close cousin to Johnny Cash’s, as deep and strong as an old Scotch whiskey.”
Vue Magazine

“What you can draw from Jonasson’s music is that it’s true to the heart, and perhaps that’s why it strikes a chord so similar to its great, no-bullshit country forefathers”
SEE Magazine

“If the three weren’t all such experienced musicians we would be hailing the dawn of bright new talent, instead we’ll just have to settle for a brilliant debut.”

~ The Fabulous Ginn Sisters~
~ BIO ~
www.theginnsisters.com

The Fabulous Ginn Sisters have made a career of breaking hearts in clubs across North America. Their already constant touring schedule recently ballooned to include touring as part of the Fred Eaglesmith Band. Backing up the iconic Indie artist led to a collaboration with
Eaglesmith’s band in their opening sets. Eaglesmith was struck by the new band’s rough, rawboned sound and invited them to record the new Fabulous Ginn Sisters CD in his Port Dover, Ontario studio. The result
is a smoky, drunken stumble through a broken-heart junkyard.

‘You Can’t Take a Bad Girl Home’ is set for release in the late winter of 2010. Having notched out a place for themselves with their amazing singing, the new CD is a marked dodge towards rock and roll. The songs are bleak yet poppy, the singing is subtle and nuanced, and the music is a garage mix of reverb and mystery hum.

The Fabulous Ginn Sisters (then ‘The Ginn Sisters’) first made their mark on the Americana scene with their 2006 release “Blood Oranges” which received stellar reviews from regional, national and international media.
It was played on
Americana, AAA, Folk, Country, Eclectic, and even Bluegrass radio. It reached #2 on the RootsMusic Report, #3 on the FAR Chart and #24 on the Americana Chart. It was the #1 independently released CD on the Americana Chart for 2006. It was in top rotation on a number of national radio, TV-radio and Internet stations, including XM Radio's X Country. They have played in some of the best listening rooms in the
country like The Ark, Mountain Stage, The Little Bear, The Bitter End, The Cactus Cafe, Eddies Attic, CSPS, the Focal Point, Swallow Hill, and the Bluebird Café and festivals including Big State, Kerrville, and Flat Rock. They are primarily interested in playing at festivals, music clubs, theatres and listening rooms.

“I love the (Ginn) Sisters. This is straight stuff, no girly business
here. Everyone should own this CD.” Jon Dee Graham

Three years and three studios later Buckler has made it through the wilderness (to plagiarize Madonna). With his work finally finished Buckler says, "It feels like I have had a child--or passed a kidney stone".

The new CD is called "This Wall of Mud" and reflects the songwriter's thoughts on society, people, and the world at large. Buckler has been told he has a big mouth, and if you listen to this album you will hear it. The music ranges from alt-country to progressive metal, with hints of Pink Floyd. The music columnist, Fish Griwkowsky, calls it evolved metal.

Whatever you want to call it, it is Calvin Buckler's singular imagination focused by guitar and sparse lyrics, with a bunch of other musicians along for the ride--no doubt wondering what this guy is on . . . and where they can get some too.
