"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." I guess that is why they call it "Mother" Nature, because on July 8th Mother Nature let loose and the heavens came down. Six and half inches in 30 hours to be exact. Woodlands County declared it to be a natural disaster. It would begin to brighten up for a moment and then just pour again. I have lived in this area most of my life and have never seen or felt it rain like that. The most amazing thing to me is that people stayed and still had a good time. There was one couple standing at the back of their truck making a sandwich on the tail gate, with a tarp draped over them and their sandwiches, smiling at me when I walked by. There were also the people who thought maybe I was Jesus or Moses, telling me I could shut the tap off any time. I should have told them that Moses parted the Red Sea he did not stop it from raining. Yes, it takes all kinds to make the world go round.
I would like to thank all the people that stayed, and all the volunteers for sticking it out with me as well. These are the kind of events that bring people together. There was only one performer that did not make it because of the weather, and one band that thought their set was in the evening and not the afternoon. No prauling. Misunderstandings happen and some people can get scared for their life. One band took their deposit and then did not show up. It is a long story but I don't think they realize how hard it is to get booked for a festival after getting a bad reputation. There are a lot of bands out there looking for gigs. His loss and a huge mistake, karma has a way of catching up with you.
So here we go again, July 13th and 14th 2012, hope to see you all down at the river for the seventh annual Pembina River Nights.
Sincerely,
Calvin Buckler
